Aviation Organizations

1.) Two organizations I feel as though are important to be a part of as a progress throughout my career are the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) and the Cargo Airline Association (CAA).

2.) OBAP's website states that their mission is that,"We exist to Inspire Excellence: we Support, Transform, Educate and Mentor Black Aerospace Professionals". The overall role of OBAP is to increase the amount of minorities entering the aerospace industry. This is incredibly important as the industry is mostly made up of white people. OBAP has several partnerships with big names in aviation such as United, Southwest, and even Walmart Aviation, to name a few. The CAA's website states that "the Cargo Airline Association is responsible for representing the industry before federal and state regulatory bodies, the United States Congress and, when necessary, in the federal and state courts". The roll of the CAA is essentially the same as ALPA, in that it makes sure that cargo pilots are represented in a fair and equal way. The CAA has partnerships with five all cargo operators including UPS, Fedex, Atlas Air, ABX Air, and Kalitta Air.

3.)It is important that we all become members of OBAP as to further less privileged individuals career paths and create a fair and level playing field for all whom wish to make aviation their career. The CAA is what represents the cargo airline industry at the governmental level. Being a member of the CAA is important because as a whole, the cargo industry is treated much more differently than the passenger airline sector within the government. For instance, cargo operators are not included under Part 117 pertaining to duty and rest requirements. This is something that really needs to change. Cargo pilots should have the same duty and rest requirements as passenger pilots since they are both performing the same job. It is issues like this that the CAA fights for, and as aviation professionals, we should all be having the same quality of life.

4.) OBAP has several job opportunities. OBAP has set up academies all over the United states that are dedicated to engaging youth during summer programs. These academies are currently looking for people to donate their time to and can be found at this link: http://www.obap.org/obap-ace-academies
The CAA is currently not offering any jobs and only has 11 employees on LinkedIn. Jobs that could potentially present themselves in the future, however, are the President, Senior Vice President, and the Vice President of Legislative Policy.
